Why Bihar Board Is Winning Over CBSE And ICSE Students In 2026?

Around 1.30 lakh students from CBSE, ICSE and other state boards joined Bihar Board schools for Class 11 in 2026, with faster results emerging as a major attraction.

Patna: Bihar Board is seeing a growing influx of students who completed Class 10 under CBSE, ICSE and other state boards, with the board’s faster examination and result cycle emerging as a key factor behind the shift.

According to figures cited by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), more than 9.25 lakh students from other boards have chosen Bihar Board schools for Class 11 between 2018 and 2026. In 2026 alone, around 13.05 lakh students enrolled in Class 11.

Of these, approximately 1.30 lakh students came from boards other than BSEB. The figure includes 1,07,785 CBSE students, 1,731 ICSE students and 20,229 students from boards in other states.

The number has also risen from the previous year. In 2025, around 11.99 lakh students enrolled in Class 11 in Bihar Board schools, including approximately 1.11 lakh students from other boards.

The Big Attraction: Faster Results

One of the main reasons being cited for the growing interest in Bihar Board is its ability to release examination results earlier than many other boards.

BSEB generally declares its main Class 12 examination results in March, while several other boards release their intermediate-level results in May or June. Bihar Board also aims to complete the results of compartmental, supplementary and special examinations by May.

For students preparing for higher education, this difference in the examination calendar can provide additional time for completing admission and entrance-related formalities.

The timing can be particularly relevant for students targeting institutions such as IITs, NITs and IIITs, where admission processes may involve entrance examination ranks as well as prescribed Class 12 marks or percentile requirements.

Another Chance Through Supplementary Exams

BSEB’s examination schedule also provides students with an opportunity to improve their position if they miss the main examination or do not obtain the marks they expect.

Students unable to appear in the February main examination, or those seeking another opportunity after receiving lower-than-expected marks, can take part in the supplementary and special examinations conducted in May.

The relatively early declaration of these results can allow students to proceed with further admission processes without waiting for a later examination cycle.

Technology Behind The Faster Process

BSEB Chairman Dr Tyagarajan S.M. said the board has been releasing examination results within a record timeframe for the past seven years.

The board has introduced several measures to reduce errors and delays. Students’ photographs, roll numbers and other required information are printed on answer sheets in advance, leaving candidates to complete the remaining required details.

BSEB has also implemented barcoding and litho coding for answer sheets. According to the board, these systems help identify answer sheets more efficiently, improve transparency in evaluation and reduce the possibility of results remaining pending.

The board has also introduced a Document Verification System (DVS) application for online verification of documents.

Why The Shift Is Growing

The attraction is not limited to faster results. BSEB has increasingly moved several admission and examination processes to software-based systems, which the board says helps reduce the possibility of errors.

Its examination pattern also includes 50 per cent objective-type questions, along with prescribed options in different categories of questions.

BSEB has further claimed that it became the first board in the country to receive three ISO certificates simultaneously.

Together, these changes have helped create a system that some students from other boards are now considering for their Class 11 and 12 education.

What The 2026 Numbers Show

The 2026 admission figures provide a clear picture of the changing pattern. Out of approximately 13.05 lakh Class 11 admissions, 1,07,785 students came from CBSE, while 1,731 came from ICSE.

Another 20,229 students completed Class 10 under boards in other states. Combined, students from other boards accounted for around 1.30 lakh admissions.

The increase from around 1.11 lakh in 2025 to 1.30 lakh in 2026 indicates that Bihar Board is attracting a growing number of students who previously studied under other education boards.

For these students, the appeal appears to lie particularly in faster results, additional examination opportunities, technology-based processes and more time for higher-education admission procedures.

The trend suggests that Bihar Board’s result-focused examination system is becoming an increasingly important factor in Class 11 choices among students who have completed Class 10 through CBSE, ICSE and other state boards.
