Patna: Train passengers planning to travel during the winter months are being advised to take extra care as dense fog is likely to cause delays in rail services. The East Central Railway has warned that poor visibility, especially during early mornings and late nights, can slow down train movement. Passengers are requested to check the latest train timings and running status from official railway sources before starting their journey, as schedules may change depending on weather conditions.
The Samastipur division of East Central Railway has said it has made detailed preparations to ensure passenger safety during the foggy season. Railway officials have made it clear that safety will remain the top priority, even if trains have to run at lower speeds. Because of this, some trains may be regulated or delayed to avoid any risk. Passengers are being asked to keep possible delays in mind while planning their travel and to cooperate with railway staff.
To help train drivers see better in dense fog, fog-safe devices are being installed in locomotive engines. These devices assist loco pilots in identifying signals, tracks and important points along the route when visibility is very low. The railway has explained that while these precautions may increase travel time, they are necessary to ensure that trains operate safely. Passengers are advised to remain patient and stay informed about updates before and during their journey.
The railway has also improved signalling and track safety systems to reduce the risk of accidents in foggy conditions. White lime markings have been made along tracks, signal boards have been cleaned, and reflective strips have been installed at level crossings. LED flasher tail lamps have been added to the last coaches of trains so they can be clearly seen by trains coming from behind. In addition, loco pilots, assistant loco pilots and guards are receiving special training to manage fog-related challenges, and visibility monitoring equipment has been installed at key stations to respond quickly if conditions worsen.
