Supaul: A woman in Bihar has filed a formal complaint against playback singer Udit Narayan, accusing him of fraud, medical misconduct and years of emotional and social harassment, prompting police to begin a preliminary inquiry into the allegations.
The complaint was submitted at the women’s police station in Supaul district by Ranjana Narayan Jha, who claims she married the singer in December 1984 according to Hindu rites. She said Narayan moved to Mumbai the following year to pursue a career in playback singing, after which contact between them reduced. She later learned through media reports, she alleged, that he had married another woman.
In her application, Jha has made serious allegations regarding a medical procedure dating back nearly three decades. She claimed that in 1996 she was taken to Delhi for treatment and underwent surgery at a large hospital, where her uterus was allegedly removed without her knowledg or informed consent. She has named Narayan and his brothers, Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalit Narayan Jha, accusing them of involvement. According to her statement, she discovered the nature of the surgery only recently during medical tests in 2025.
She also alleged that when she travelled to Mumbai in 2006 in an attempt to meet her husband, she was prevented from entering his home and was publicly humiliated before being sent back. Citing these incidents, she has requested the police to register a first information report against the accused.
Anju Tiwari, the station house officer at the women’s police station, confirmed that the complaint has been received and that an investigation is under way. As of publication, neither Narayan nor the other named individuals had issued an official response. Police said further action would depend on the findings of the inquiry.
