Patna: The weather in Bihar is gradually returning to normal, but the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Patna center has issued a yellow alert for rainfall in seven districts today, Monday. While moderate showers are expected in these districts, the rest of the state is likely to experience humid and dry conditions.
According to officials, no district in Bihar recorded rainfall in the past 24 hours. In Patna, bright sunshine since morning left residents grappling with intense heat and humidity. Daytime temperatures in the capital are expected to remain between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, with light breezes bringing some relief by evening. However, humidity is likely to persist through the night.
Monsoon Revival Expected in Early October
Meteorologists have forecast a significant change in weather patterns between October 2 and 6, with easterly winds bringing in moisture across the state. This shift is expected to reactivate the southwest monsoon, leading to heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts, particularly in northern and eastern Bihar.
Experts also noted that a low-pressure system is forming in the Bay of Bengal and could intensify further by October 1, strengthening monsoon activity in Bihar.
Flood Risk in North Bihar
The Meteorological Center has cautioned that heavy rainfall in catchment areas may cause sudden surges in major rivers, including the Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati, and Kamala Balan. This could result in waterlogging in low-lying regions and even trigger flood-like situations in some districts.
Authorities have been advised to remain vigilant, while residents in vulnerable areas, particularly along river banks, have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel.
District-wise Rain Forecast
From October 2, light to moderate rainfall is expected in Patna, Samastipur, Nalanda, Vaishali, and Muzaffarpur. These districts may witness heavy rainfall on October 4 and 5, according to the forecast.
