Patna: A sudden change in weather patterns swept across various districts of Bihar, including Patna and Hajipur, on Tuesday. By midday, the capital city became enveloped in clouds, accompanied by light drizzles. The Meteorological Department has sounded a yellow alert, warning of rainfall in 26 districts of the state.
Anticipating the weather shift, the Patna Meteorological Centre has forecasted rain across many parts of Bihar from March 19 to 22. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected to occur in isolated spots in the remaining districts, with winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km per hour.
Explaining the meteorological phenomena at play, scientists point to a convergence of factors. A trough line extending from Jharkhand to Odisha, coupled with cyclonic circulations over western Uttar Pradesh, surrounding regions, and Assam, are cited as catalysts for the impending weather changes.
Kumar Gaurav, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Centre, predicted stable maximum temperatures over the next two days, followed by a gradual decrease of 2 to 4 degrees thereafter. He outlined the forecast, indicating thunderstorms and rainfall of up to 30 mm in certain regions on March 19, 20, and 21. A yellow alert has been issued in anticipation of these conditions.
The alert extends to all 38 districts of the state on March 20 and 21, with specific districts singled out for heightened vigilance. Among those on alert are Kaimur, Rohtas, Buxar, Bhojpur, Aurangabad, Arwal, Jehanabad, Gaya, Patna, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Lakhisarai, and Begusarai. Similar warnings are in place for additional districts such as Jamui, Munger, Banka, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Siwan, Gopalganj, and East and West Champaran.
