Patna: The Bihar government is set to strengthen urban civic infrastructure with the construction of 41 modern crematoriums across the state under the ‘7 Nishchay’ programme. These projects, approved under the second phase of the Atmanirbhar Bihar initiative, are being developed at a total cost of Rs 241.71 crore.
According to official information, 11 crematoriums have already been completed, while construction work is currently underway at 30 locations. The projects are being executed by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCO).
BUIDCO Managing Director Animesh Kumar Parashar has directed concerned officials to further expedite construction while ensuring quality standards and adherence to project timelines.
Crematoriums Completed So Far
The crematoriums that have been completed include facilities at Kishanganj (Rs 5.50 crore), Araria (Rs 5.10 crore), Darbhanga (Rs 9.72 crore), Revelganj (Rs 4.23 crore), Siwan (Rs 8.93 crore), Supaul (Rs 5.64 crore), Gopalganj (Rs 4.25 crore), Arwal (Rs 4.65 crore), Jehanabad (Rs 9.06 crore), Sasaram (Rs 4.35 crore) and Ara (Rs 4.04 crore).
Projects to Be Completed by January 2026
Three crematorium projects are scheduled for completion by January 2026. These include Biharsharif (Rs 9.44 crore), Saharsa (Rs 9.02 crore) and Bettiah (Rs 2.86 crore).
Special Features at Patna Crematorium
In Patna, a major crematorium project is being developed at Bans Ghat at an estimated cost of Rs 89.40 crore. The complex will feature two ponds that will receive Ganga water through a dedicated pipeline. As part of the design, two ceremonial gateways — ‘Moksha Dwar’ and ‘Vaikunth Dwar’ — are also being constructed.
Apart from Patna, crematoriums have been developed or upgraded in several districts, including Jehanabad (Rs 7.89 crore), Arwal (Rs 3.91 crore), Rohtas (Rs 4.06 crore), Nalanda (Rs 7.70 crore), Gaya (Rs 3.36 crore), Bhagalpur (Rs 9.38 crore) and Ara (Rs 3.77 crore).
Projects Slated for Completion by March 2026
Thirteen crematorium projects are targeted for completion by March 2026. These include Katihar (Rs 4.64 crore), Bihta (Rs 10.02 crore), Purnia (Rs 10.40 crore), Gaya (Rs 3.96 crore), Samastipur (Rs 2.45 crore), Bhagalpur (Rs 11.17 crore), Manihari (Rs 9 crore), Khagaria (Rs 5.31 crore), Sitamarhi (Rs 4.59 crore), Motihari (Rs 7.68 crore), Muzaffarpur (Rs 8.87 crore), Buxar (Rs 8.72 crore) and Hajipur (Rs 1.78 crore).
Officials said the initiative aims to provide dignified last rites facilities equipped with modern amenities across urban areas of Bihar, while also improving sanitation, environmental standards and public convenience.
