Patna: As many as 1,260 vehicles in Patna district may face cancellation of registration for failing to pay traffic fines despite repeated notices from authorities. Officials said the vehicle owners did not deposit the penalty amount even 90 days after e-challans were issued for traffic rule violations.
According to traffic police, notices have already been sent to the owners of these vehicles. If the fines are not paid even after the notice period, the authorities may proceed to cancel the vehicle registration. In some cases, the driving licence of the vehicle owner may also be suspended or cancelled. Officials said both the registration and driving licence could be revoked in serious cases.
The e-challans for these vehicles were issued earlier, and owners had been asked to pay the penalties between February 1 and February 28. However, many failed to comply within the stipulated time.
Meanwhile, the traffic police recently carried out a special enforcement drive and seized around a dozen vehicles to demonstrate the possible action against repeated violators. Each of these vehicle owners had been issued four challans, all of which had remained pending for more than 90 days.
The vehicles were seized from several areas of the city, including Boring Road, Nehru Path, Digha-Ashiana Road, Gandhi Maidan and Ashok Rajpath.
Traffic police officials have also directed patrolling personnel to identify vehicles parked in no-parking zones and verify whether any e-challans are pending against them. If outstanding fines are found, the vehicles will be towed using cranes and taken to the traffic police station for further action.
Authorities said the drive aims to ensure stricter compliance with traffic regulations and encourage vehicle owners to clear pending fines promptly.
