Champaran: The Government of India has taken quick steps to bring back Indian citizens stranded in Nepal. District Magistrates in all border areas have been given clear instructions to help people cross safely and reach their homes. In East Champaran, District Magistrate Saurabh Jorwal formed a special team of officers at the Raxaul border to manage the process.
On Wednesday night, 22 tourists from Andhra Pradesh and 16 from Karnataka were safely sent home through Raxaul. The work at the border was supervised by Sub-Divisional Officer Manish Kumar, while the District Magistrate himself kept a close watch on the situation. The district administration stayed in constant touch with the Indian Embassy, Sashastra Seema Bal and Customs officials to ensure smooth arrangements.
Many stranded travellers called the District Magistrate directly for help. Arrangements were made quickly so they could travel back home without delay. The tourists expressed their relief and joy by chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” as they crossed the border and continued their journey.
The authorities are also keeping a close watch on the security situation in Nepal after reports of a jailbreak in Kathmandu. The police team, led by Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat, is working with SSB and Bihar Police to guard the border. On Wednesday evening, a Bangladeshi citizen who escaped from Kathmandu Jail was caught near the border.
To make it easy for stranded people to get help, the District Magistrate has shared his official number – +91 94731 91301. People who call on this number are being helped continuously and given safe passage home.
