Patna: The Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Chaudhary, has announced that 10 additional districts in the state will soon be connected by air under the Udan 5.2 scheme, an initiative of the central government. Chaudhary credited Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s efforts for the development and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating air travel to smaller cities across the country.
Under the Udan scheme, small aircraft services will be introduced in Veerpur, Saharsa, Bhagalpur, Munger, Muzaffarpur, Valmiki Nagar, Motihari, Madhubani, and Chapra. Chaudhary said that 20-seater aircraft would operate in these cities, with the development of airports taking place through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the state government, the central government, and airline companies.
The Airports Authority of India will ensure the provision of necessary infrastructure, including fire safety, security, and basic amenities, to enable smooth operations.
Chaudhary added that the central government has begun assessing the potential for launching air services from these districts. The Union government has requested Bihar to confirm the availability of land for airport development, and a decision on this is expected soon.
The Udan (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, launched to make regional air travel accessible and affordable, aims to boost connectivity in smaller cities while promoting economic growth in underdeveloped regions.
