Patna : The Bihar Water Resources Department has advanced clearance procedures for road infrastructure projects worth approximately Rs 6,900 crore, including the Patna-Ara-Rohtas four-lane corridor and the widening of National Highway 122 between Muzaffarpur and Barauni.

The proposals include highway expansion, elevated roads along canal embankments and bridge construction intended to improve connectivity across several districts.

The clearances will allow the relevant project processes to move forward, but they do not mean construction can begin immediately on every stretch. Further approvals and procedural requirements may still need to be completed, according to a report.

Patna-Ara-Rohtas Four-Lane Corridor Gets Rs 3,712 Crore Approval

The Patna-Ara-Rohtas corridor is planned to cover 120.10 km, with a project cost of Rs 3,712.40 crore. The Central Government approved the project in March 2025.

The corridor includes greenfield and brownfield road sections intended to strengthen connectivity between Patna, Bhojpur and Rohtas districts.

The first package involves constructing a 74.432-km greenfield road from Suara in Rohtas district to Garhani on State Highway 12.

The Water Resources Department issued final second-stage permission for the proposal related to this package on September 30, 2026. The clearance is an important step in advancing the associated construction process.

Once completed, the corridor is expected to improve road travel between the region’s towns and surrounding areas. However, a confirmed completion schedule for the overall corridor was not provided in the report.

NH-122 Widening Between Muzaffarpur And Barauni

The proposal to widen 98.48 km of NH-122 between Muzaffarpur and Barauni has an estimated cost of around Rs 3,200 crore. The plan also includes a proposed 5.75-km greenfield bypass connecting Dighra Patti on NH-122 with Madhaul on NH-22.

As part of the project, elevated road sections combined with bridges are proposed along both embankments of the Tirhut Main Canal, between kilometres 222.72 and 227.08.

The structures are intended to facilitate highway widening along the canal stretch and improve vehicle movement on the route.

The Water Resources Department’s official listing records the clearance-related proposal for the canal-side structures on October 3, 2026. A confirmed construction start date and completion timeline were not provided in the report.

RCC High-Level Bridge Planned In Muzaffarpur District

A reinforced cement concrete (RCC) high-level bridge is proposed on the Mahna-Jagannathpur road via Mansurpur in Motipur block of Muzaffarpur district.

The bridge is planned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III across the Tirhut Main Canal at kilometre 197.865.

The Water Resources Department’s official records show that final second-stage clearance for the bridge was issued on October 6, 2026.

The proposed structure is expected to improve local road connectivity, although the report does not specify when construction will begin.

Temporary Steel Bridge Proposed Over Eastern Link Canal

A temporary steel bridge is also planned to replace a damaged bridge over the Eastern Link Canal at kilometre 2.80.

The department issued a letter conveying in-principle consent at the first stage on October 6, 2026, according to its official records.

This is an initial clearance rather than confirmation that the bridge is ready for construction. Further steps remain before the proposed structure can be built.

The temporary bridge is intended to help restore movement across the affected stretch and ease transport difficulties in the surrounding area.

Further Approvals And Construction Timelines Awaited

The projects involve a mix of highway widening, greenfield road construction, canal-side elevated structures and local bridges. Together, they are intended to strengthen road connectivity and improve transport links across parts of Bihar.

The Water Resources Department’s clearances represent progress for the proposals, but construction schedules and completion dates remain unconfirmed for several components.

Implementation will depend on the remaining approvals and subsequent construction processes.
