Patna: Protests by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) candidates in Patna’s Gardanibagh entered their 14th day on Tuesday, drawing support from Left and Congress MLAs. The legislators staged a march from the Vidhan Sabha to the Raj Bhavan, demanding the cancellation of the BPSC examination and condemning the recent police lathicharge on protesters.
Carrying posters with their demands, the MLAs encountered resistance from police officers who stopped them en route to the Governor’s residence. In response, the legislators sat on the road and challenged the police, asking for rules that prohibit MLAs from meeting the Governor. Following the confrontation, the police eventually allowed them to proceed but opted to transport the MLAs to the Raj Bhavan in vehicles. A brief scuffle reportedly occurred during the exchange.
CPI (ML) MLA Rambali Yadav, representing Ghosi in Jehanabad, criticized the police action, stating, “We were stopped nine times by the police and forcibly taken to the Raj Bhavan in a car. This is a violation of democracy. The government is behaving in a dictatorial manner.”
The protests have intensified in recent days. On Monday, the Left and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) called for a statewide bandh in solidarity with the candidates. The bandh saw trains halted in two locations and roads blocked in six cities, disrupting daily life.
