Patna : Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a ‘Save Democracy, Stop Anarchy’ march in Patna on Friday, demanding the protection of democratic values and the dignity of constitutional institutions. The protest began at Gandhi Maidan and moved through Kargil Chowk and JP Golambar towards Dak Bungalow Chowk.
The march saw protesters break barricades at JP Golambar and advance towards Dak Bungalow Chowk, where the administration had installed barricades across both lanes to restrict their movement. A large police contingent, water cannons and a riot-control vehicle were deployed to manage the situation.
Protesters also climbed barricades at Dak Bungalow Chowk and raised slogans. Police personnel intervened when demonstrators attempted to climb over the barricades.
ABVP March Moves From Gandhi Maidan Towards Dak Bungalow Chowk
The demonstration began at Gandhi Maidan, with students and youth gathering at Kargil Chowk carrying flags and placards and raising slogans in support of democracy and the Constitution.
The protesters later moved towards JP Golambar, where police had put up barricades to control their movement. Some participants attempted to break through the barriers before advancing towards Dak Bungalow Chowk.
The administration reinforced security arrangements at the intersection, deploying police personnel and crowd-control equipment to prevent further movement beyond the barricades.
The march took place despite rainfall, with protesters continuing their demonstration and raising slogans calling for respect for the Constitution and democratic values.
DUSU President Yash Dabas Joins Demonstration
Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Yash Dabas also participated in the march. At Dak Bungalow Chowk, he climbed onto a barricade and addressed demonstrators while standing in the rain.
In his remarks, Dabas accused a section of political leaders of promoting disorder while invoking the Constitution. Referring to the Emergency imposed in 1975, he criticised those whose political predecessors, he alleged, had undermined constitutional values during that period.
He also invoked Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel while arguing that India should remain united. His remarks were part of the speeches delivered during the demonstration.
Earlier, Dabas had described India’s Gen Z as young people who express patriotism and carry forward a sense of national pride.
ABVP Raises Concerns Over Paper Leaks And Democratic Values
Participants carried placards and raised slogans including “Respect the Constitution” and “Democracy is the pride of the nation”.
Some students participating in the protest also raised concerns over paper leaks, arguing that such incidents contribute to disorder and calling for stronger government action.
ABVP representatives addressed the gathering at Kargil Chowk before the march proceeded towards Dak Bungalow Chowk. Protesters also displayed placards bearing slogans related to democracy and public accountability.
The organisation described the demonstration as a campaign to defend democratic values and oppose what it termed anarchy.
Police Deploy Water Cannons And Riot-Control Vehicle
Police arrangements were strengthened at JP Golambar and Dak Bungalow Chowk as the march advanced. Barricades were installed to restrict access, while water cannons and a riot-control vehicle were positioned near the protest route.
Riot-control personnel and other police staff were deployed to prevent protesters from moving beyond restricted points. Police also intervened when demonstrators attempted to climb the barricades.
The deployment reflected the administration’s efforts to manage the gathering and maintain order at busy city intersections.
The march brought together ABVP students and youth supporters from across the city, with the demonstration continuing amid rainfall and heightened security arrangements.
