Patna: Singer Kalpana Patowari, known for taking Bhojpuri and folk music to international platforms, has released her much-anticipated musical documentary “Gangasnan” for the 2025 Mahapurna Kumbh. Kalpana described “Gangasnan” as more than just a song, calling it a musical tribute to Maa Ganga and Sanatan culture. The project features contributions from renowned artists, including Indian jazz pianist Louis Banks, guitarist Kush Upadhyay, drummer Gino Banks, and sarangi player Dilshad Khan. Musicians from Spain and Denmark also added their expertise, blending Indian jazz, western blues, and traditional folk elements, making it a unique Bhojpuri music piece.
Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Samujjal Kashyap, “Gangasnan” was filmed in cultural hubs like Kashi and Prayagraj. The documentary captures the spiritual essence and cultural significance of the river Ganga, combining stunning visuals with the soulful composition.
Kalpana’s rendition revives Bhikhari Thakur’s immortal work with the collaboration of late folk artist Ramagya Ram and Arunava Deka. The song’s lyrics celebrate the Sanatan culture and pay homage to the Ganga’s sacred role in India’s heritage.
The song has received widespread praise for its innovative approach, blending traditional Bhojpuri music with global musical styles, creating an artistic bridge between Indian spirituality and international artistry.
