Patna: IIT Patna has taken a significant step towards expanding its infrastructure with the foundation stone laying of a 732-bed boys’ hostel on Tuesday. The seven-story facility, spanning 15,480 square meters, will house 366 rooms designed to accommodate 732 students.
The ceremony was led by IIT Patna Director, Prof. T. N. Singh, and attended by Alpana Singh, B. K. Jha, Deputy General Manager of Bridge and Roof Company India Limited, Dean of Administration Prof. A. K. Thakur, Head of IWD Dr. A. K. Jha, along with faculty members, associate deans, department heads, and administrative officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Singh described the moment as “historic” for IIT Patna. “This project is the result of the collective and dedicated efforts of our faculty, staff, and students. This hostel is a significant initiative towards making the institute self-reliant, and we are committed to providing world-class infrastructure for the overall development of our students,” he said.
IIT Patna is the first among the second-generation IITs to undertake such a project using its own revenue, with an estimated cost of Rs 55 crore. The hostel is expected to be completed by May 2026 and will feature a fully Wi-Fi-enabled campus, a centralized solar water heating system, and an energy-efficient design with a GRIHA-3 rating.
