Dr S S Jha Honoured With Lifetime Achievement Award By Bihar Orthopaedic Association

Patna: Dr S S Jha has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Bihar Orthopaedic Association (BOA) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to orthopaedics and rheumatology. The award was presented by Dr Navin Thakkar, President-elect of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA), during the inaugural ceremony of the 51st annual conference BOACON 2025 at Gyan Bhawan here on Saturday.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by prominent figures from the medical community, including IOA Secretary General Dr Rajiv Raman, Reception Committee Chairman Dr Ashok Kumar Sinha, Organising Chairman Dr Bharat Singh, Organising Secretary Dr Mahesh Prasad, BOA President Dr Anil Kumar, and BOA Secretary Dr Pravin Sahu, along with several orthopaedic specialists participating in the conference.

Dr Jha was also recently honoured with the prestigious Honorary Fellowship of the Indian Orthopaedic Association at the 69th annual IOA conference held in Bengaluru. Recognised for his exceptional academic contributions spanning over five decades, he has played a pivotal role in advancing the fields of orthopaedics and rheumatology.

A distinguished figure in the medical fraternity, Dr Jha was the founding president of the Indian Orthopaedic Rheumatology Association in 2009 and currently serves as its Patron-in-Chief. In his honour, the association has instituted the “S S Jha Oration,” delivered annually at its conference in Varanasi. He is also the patron of the Geriatric Orthopaedic Society of India and the Cawnpore Joint Arthroplasty Course, and has previously served as President and Secretary of the Indian Foot & Ankle Society.

Dr Jha’s contributions extend beyond academia, with a legacy of performing over 40,000 surgeries on physically challenged individuals. Recognising his work in rehabilitation, Bihar Vidhan Sabha Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav conferred upon him a Lifetime Achievement Award.

In addition to his surgical and academic pursuits, Dr Jha has served as the Honorary Director of Mahavir Vaatsalya Aspatal, a charitable multi-speciality hospital run by Sri Mahavir Mandir, Patna, for over a decade. He currently holds key positions, including Secretary of the Governing Body of Mahavir Arogya Sansthan and membership in the governing bodies of Mahavir Vikash Samiti and Mahavir Senior Citizen Hospital.
