Child Falls into Open Pit in Patna, BUIDCO Fines Construction Agency Rs 5.5 Crore

Patna: A six-year-old child fell into a 20-foot-deep pit along with an e-rickshaw on Rajivnagar Road No. 23. The pit was dug as part of the Namami Gange project but had been left uncovered for a long time, posing a serious hazard to the local community.
The child was rescued after significant effort by the staff of a nearby hospital and local residents. He sustained a head injury but was given first aid before being handed over to his family.
Following the incident, officials from BUIDCO and the Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot and spoke with the child’s family. Taking immediate action, the Managing Director of BUIDCO imposed a fine of ₹5.5 crore on the construction agency responsible for the work. Additionally, disciplinary action has been taken against the engineer overseeing the project.
The pit had been dug for the expansion of the pipeline connection to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) by VA Tech Wabag Limited. Residents of the area expressed their concerns, highlighting that the pit had been left uncovered despite being in a densely populated locality, increasing the risk of further accidents.
