Patna: The ECO Task Force of Patna Women’s College, in collaboration with the Srishti Environment Club and Tarumitra, organized a Bird Nest and Feeder Making Competition to mark World Sparrow Day. The event aimed to raise awareness about sparrow conservation and promote the use of sustainable materials to create bird-friendly habitats.

A total of 102 members from the ECO Task Force and the Srishti Environment Club participated, showcasing their creativity in designing eco-friendly bird nests and feeders. The competition emphasized the importance of urban birds in maintaining biodiversity and encouraged students to take responsibility for avian welfare. Participants used natural materials to construct innovative designs, reinforcing the message of environmental sustainability.

The first position was secured by Aparna Tanu Kujur, Preety Kumari, and Shaivy Arya from the Department of Zoology. The second position resulted in a tie between Prachi Kumari, Rishita Shrivastava, and Unzela Khurshid from the Department of Zoology, along with Ayushi Bhowmick, Shruti Verma, and Preeti Rai from B.Com Accounts and Finance. The third position was also a tie between Muskan Kumari, Siwani Bharti, and Vanshika from the Department of Political Science, as well as Kalpana Bharti and Alisha Naaz from the Department of History. Consolation prizes were awarded to Jiby Joy and Supriya Tudu from the Department of Zoology, along with Shurtika Kumari, Sweta Kumari, and Nandini Kumari from the Department of Economics.

The event was judged by Madhu Rani Sinha, Head of the Department of Chemistry; Pinky Prasad, Head of the Department of Botany; and Manisha Prasad, Head of the Department of Computer Applications (BCA). Ruquaiya Fatima and Simran from Semester IV of the Department of Zoology managed the event, while Sumeet Ranjan, Secretary of the ECO Task Force and Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology, coordinated the competition with the support of Shobha Shrivastava, Head of the Department of Zoology. Teachers and support staff also contributed to the success of the initiative.

The competition provided a platform for students to engage in hands-on conservation efforts while fostering a deeper understanding of the role of sparrows and other urban birds in the ecosystem. The event concluded with participants expressing their commitment to promoting biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
