Nalanda / Patna : The Government of Bihar has approved 16 irrigation schemes for Nalanda district under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan for the 2024-25 financial year. The schemes, sanctioned by the Minor Water Resources Department, will cost Rs 3,874.66 lakh and are expected to restore irrigation facilities across 4,785 hectares of agricultural land. The projects are set for completion by June.
The approved schemes, aimed at rejuvenating ponds and traditional ahar-pain systems, will benefit farmers in eight blocks of Nalanda—Nagarnausa, Bihar Sharif, Karayaparshurai, Bind, Ekangarsarai, Harnaut, Nursarai, and Islampur.
Blockwise Scheme Breakdown
In Nagarnausa, five projects have been approved:
Bhobhi Pain renovation (Rs 97.86 lakh, 180 hectares)
Kachiama Pain restoration (Rs 348.87 lakh, 220 hectares)
Drain restoration in Bhoothakhad, Chishtipur, Mushari, and Parsadiha (Rs 349.40 lakh, 400 hectares)
Muniampur Hayatpur Pain Yojana restoration (Rs 266.26 lakh, 308 hectares)
Khiru Bigha-Wajitpur Pain renovation (Rs 123.72 lakh, 280 hectares)
In Bihar Sharif, two schemes will be carried out:
Didi Tetrawa Pond renovation (Rs 404.73 lakh, 160 hectares)
Tetrawa Pond restoration (Rs 226.59 lakh, 150 hectares)
Karayaparshurai will see:
Dima Pain renovation (Rs 190.48 lakh, 240 hectares)
Diyawan Pond restoration (Rs 96.57 lakh, 105 hectares)
In Bind, the approved projects include:
Govindpur Barhog Pain restoration (Rs 191.67 lakh, 245 hectares)
Restoration of Kathrahi, Ishwarchak, and Lalubigha Pain (Rs 211.63 lakh, 310 hectares)
Ekangarsarai will benefit from:
Pansghi Pond restoration (Rs 158.62 lakh, 120 hectares)
Tarapur Pain Scheme restoration (Rs 202.24 lakh, 987 hectares)
In Harnaut, a major scheme has been approved for:
Comprehensive renovation of Bangachha Telmar Pain (Rs 506.27 lakh, 500 hectares)
Nursarai will see:
Restoration of Andhana, Shankarpur, and Sardar Bigha Ahar-Pain (Rs 367.68 lakh, 410 hectares)
Lastly, Islampur will benefit from:
Pilkhi Pain restoration (Rs 132.08 lakh, 170 hectares)
Boosting Agriculture and Conserving Water
The Minor Water Resources Department, which oversees schemes covering command areas of up to 2,000 hectares, is focusing on both surface and groundwater irrigation under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali initiative. The schemes aim to not only enhance agricultural production but also revive traditional water resources and improve groundwater levels.
