Bihar Environment Minister Urges Families to Join Weekly Tree-Planting Drive

Patna : Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister, Dr. Sunil Kumar, has urged citizens to transform the “Every Sunday – In the Name of the Environment” campaign into a mass movement. Addressing a crucial meeting with Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) from across the state, Dr. Sunil emphasized the importance of community involvement in tree plantation efforts to boost Bihar’s green cover.
The meeting, held at Aranya Bhawan in Patna, was attended by senior officials, including PCCF (HoFF) Prabhat Kumar Gupta and Special Secretary Kanwal Tanuj. Dr. Sunil reviewed the progress of ongoing departmental schemes, assessed district-wise plantation efforts, and evaluated public awareness campaigns aimed at promoting environmental conservation.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Dr. Sunil called on every household to plant and nurture a tree in the name of their family members. “If we all commit to planting a tree and taking care of it, we can transform Bihar into a greener state in the coming years,” he said. He underscored the broader benefits of afforestation, noting that forests are essential not only for maintaining ecological balance but also for preserving biodiversity and protecting natural resources.
Dr. Sunil Kumar announced plans to tour the state in the coming weeks to assess the ground realities of the Forest Department’s work. He instructed officials to intensify awareness campaigns and encourage widespread participation in afforestation efforts. “Our goal is not just to plant trees but to lay the foundation for a green and sustainable future,” he added.
