Patna: Under the Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan, waste management in rural areas of Bihar has seen significant improvement. Door-to-door garbage collection has been implemented, utilizing over one lakh rickshaws for waste collection and transportation. At the Gram Panchayat level, 8,024 e-rickshaws and 1,08,687 pedal rickshaws are being used, addressing the long-standing issue of waste disposal in villages.
Along with solid waste, liquid waste management has also been strengthened under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) and Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan. More than 4,35,000 community soak pits, 78,995 junction chambers, and 23,421 drain outlet points have been constructed, ensuring proper management of wastewater and improving sanitation in rural areas.
The Gobardhan Yojana is playing a crucial role in the disposal of agricultural and animal waste while also promoting biogas production. So far, 35 Gobardhan units have been established across the state, and efforts are underway to expand this initiative. The government has set a target to construct and operate Gobardhan units in every district by the financial year 2025-26. These initiatives have not only improved cleanliness but have also contributed to economic and social well-being in rural communities.
To further enhance the success of the Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan, the participation of community-based organizations like Jeevika, Panchayati Raj representatives, frontline workers, sanitation supervisors, and sanitation workers will be strengthened. Additionally, public awareness programs focusing on education, behavior change, and community mobilization will be conducted. In the coming days, Jeevika members and school children will also actively contribute to the cleanliness mission, ensuring long-term sustainability and a cleaner Bihar.
