Patna: In a bid to give its artists a digital identity and a broader stage, the Bihar government has launched the Bihar Artist Registration Portal, a new initiative aimed at unifying and uplifting the state’s diverse creative community.
Unveiled on Tuesday by Arts, Culture and Youth Minister Motilal Prasad, the portal is part of a wider effort to formalise support for artists across the state and connect them more effectively with government schemes and cultural platforms.
“This portal will be a milestone in preserving Bihar’s rich cultural heritage and elevating our artists on national and international platforms,” said Prasad. “Art runs deep in the soil of Bihar—this is about giving it the visibility and value it deserves.”
The online platform, developed by the Department of Art, Culture and Youth, is designed to be inclusive and accessible. Artists from across the state—whether based in urban centres or remote villages—can now register online at artistregistration.bihar.gov.in using just a mobile number. Each registrant will receive a unique identification number, which will become essential for accessing a range of government-backed opportunities, including training programmes, awards, grants, and participation in cultural events.
The portal covers a broad range of disciplines including classical dance, folk music, drama, painting, sculpture, and other visual and performing arts. Officials say this will help create a comprehensive database, allowing the state to better understand the needs of its artistic community and ensure targeted support.
“This is not just a tool for registration—it’s a platform for empowerment,” said Pranav Kumar, Secretary of the Department of Art, Culture and Youth, who attended the launch alongside key cultural figures including Rachna Patil, Director of the Archaeology Museum; Ruby, Director of the Cultural Affairs Directorate; and Kahkashan, Administrative Officer at the Indian Dance Art Temple.
