Patna : Senior IAS officer K.K. Pathak, known for his no-nonsense approach and administrative strictness in Bihar, has been appointed Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, a pivotal post within the central government. The appointment was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and formalised in a notification issued.
Pathak, a 1990-batch officer of the Bihar cadre, had previously been serving as Chairman of the Bihar Revenue Board. His new role marks a significant elevation, as the position was recently upgraded from Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary rank—placing him in the upper echelons of the country’s bureaucracy.
Pathak, originally from Uttar Pradesh, rose to prominence during his controversial tenure in Bihar’s Education Department in 2023. Known for his uncompromising attitude, he introduced sweeping reforms that sparked strong opposition from teacher unions and drew political attention, particularly for his sharp exchanges with then Education Minister Chandrashekhar.
After a change in Bihar’s political landscape, Pathak was shifted to the Revenue and Land Reforms Department. Despite the change in portfolio, his reputation for discipline and zero tolerance for inefficiency remained intact. Earlier this year, he expressed interest in central deputation, a request that has now been granted.
In the same round of appointments, the central government has named 2000-batch IAS officer N. Sarvan Kumar as Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The decisions were announced by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, which functions under the Prime Minister’s Office.
