Patna : Bihar is set to welcome its first Namo Bharat Express, a high-speed train that will connect Jaynagar and Patna, launching tomorrow, April 24. With a top speed of 130 km/h, the Namo Bharat Express will cover the 267 km distance in just 5.5 hours, significantly reducing travel time compared to current services like the Garib Rath Express, which takes six hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off this much-anticipated train on Thursday, along with the launch of the second Amrit Bharat Express from Bihar. The new services are part of an effort to modernise rail travel in the state, enhancing passenger experience and convenience.
State-of-the-Art Features
The Namo Bharat Express boasts several modern features aimed at improving safety and comfort for passengers. All 16 coaches are general class, with a capacity to carry 2,000 passengers. The train is equipped with the Kavach safety system, a cutting-edge indigenous Anti Protection System (APS), designed to prevent railway accidents. The system automatically applies the brakes in emergency situations if the driver is unable to react in time.
In addition, the train is fitted with CCTV cameras and a fire detection system for added security. The inclusion of an emergency talkback system allows passengers to communicate directly with security personnel or the railway department in case of any incident.
Passenger Comfort and Modern Amenities
The Namo Bharat Express is also designed to provide passengers with a comfortable journey. Ergonomically designed seats have been installed, and each coach is equipped with charging sockets for mobile devices. The modern vacuum-based toilets are more water-efficient than conventional flush systems, contributing to environmental sustainability.
Other key features include automatic doors that lock upon entry, a dust-proof shield gangway connecting the coaches, and a route map indicator similar to metro systems, providing passengers with real-time updates on their journey.
The train will make stops at seven stations along the route: Madhubani, Sakri, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Barauni, Mokama, and Patna. The service will operate six days a week, excluding Saturdays, offering a faster alternative to other trains like the Intercity Express, which currently takes around 7.5 hours for the same journey.
Amrit Bharat Express: A Luxurious Alternative
Alongside the Namo Bharat Express, Bihar will also see the launch of the Amrit Bharat Express on April 24. This train, running between Saharsa and Mumbai, will feature 22 luxurious coaches, offering a premium service for long-distance travel. With modern amenities such as bio-vacuum washrooms, sensor taps, and mobile charging points, the Amrit Bharat Express is set to redefine comfort on Indian Railways.
The train will depart from Saharsa at 11:40 AM and reach Mumbai the following day at 11:30 PM. It will pass through major stations such as Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Patna, and Danapur, making it an attractive choice for passengers traveling between Bihar and Mumbai.
Both the Namo Bharat and Amrit Bharat Expresses are manufactured in India, with cutting-edge technology ensuring safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort. These services mark a significant step forward in the modernisation of Bihar’s railway network, providing both speed and convenience for the state’s residents and visitors.
