Bihar: Pregnant Woman Burnt to Death by Husband Suspecting She Will Deliver A Third Girl Child

Jamui woman murder

JAMUI – A shocking incident has come to light from the Jamui district of Bihar. A pregnant woman was burnt alive by her husband in an appalling incident that occurred on Tuesday.

The woman, severely injured in the fire, succumbed to her injuries during hospital treatment. The victim, 27-year-old Radha Devi, was four months pregnant, and the police are currently investigating the case. The accused husband has not been arrested yet, and authorities are searching for him.

Radha Devi’s husband, Ranjit Sah, allegedly killed her upon learning that she was carrying a daughter. Radha Devi already had two daughters, and in this instance, Sah was hoping for a son. To determine the gender of the unborn child, an illegal ultrasound was conducted in a private clinic in Jamui. The report confirmed the expectation of a girl.

Upon receiving the report, the accused poured kerosene on Radha and set her on fire. The victim, in critical condition, was initially admitted to a private hospital and later referred to Sadar Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The victim had previously informed her parents about the ultrasound and her husband’s frustration over not having a son. Kedar Sah, the victim’s brother-in-law, stated, “Ranjit wanted a boy as he already had two daughters. We have come to know that he took his wife to a private clinic and learned about Radha carrying a girl, which angered him.”

The accused and his entire family are currently absconding, according to SHO AK Azad of Barhat police station. He mentioned, “We received information that a woman has been burnt alive in Sudampur village. We arrived at the spot, took the victim to the hospital, and found a bottle of kerosene and a matchbox at the scene. The accused and his entire family are absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.”
