Patna: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a major reform to ease the transfer of Provident Fund (PF) accounts when employees switch jobs. The new system allows most transfer requests to be processed directly by the EPFO without requiring approval from either the previous or current employer.

This change is expected to benefit over 94% of EPFO subscribers, with nearly 1.20 crore out of 1.30 crore transfer requests each year now eligible for direct processing. The key requirement for availing this facility is that the employee’s Universal Account Number (UAN) must be linked with Aadhaar and their personal details—such as name, date of birth, and gender—must match across records.

Employees can now initiate the PF transfer process online using Aadhaar-based OTP verification, making the system faster, more transparent, and user-friendly. This marks a major shift from the earlier method that often led to delays due to manual verifications and paperwork.

In another welcome move, EPFO has also simplified the procedure for correcting personal details. Members with Aadhaar-verified UANs can now update their name, gender, and date of birth directly through the EPFO portal without uploading supporting documents.

These changes are part of EPFO’s ongoing digital transformation aimed at improving service delivery, reducing grievances, and making the employment transition process smoother for millions of Indian workers.
