Siwan/Patna: The political legacy of former Siwan strongman and MP Mohammad Shahabuddin is set to continue, with his son Osama Shahab preparing to contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections later this year.

In an announcement made on Sunday, Shahabuddin’s wife, Heena Shahab, confirmed that Osama is likely to contest from the Raghunathpur constituency. Speaking after a community gathering in Dhanauti village, Heena Shahab emphasized that Raghunathpur holds deep political and social ties for their family, describing it as their “traditional area” where the people have consistently shown them support and affection. “Now the time has come for the next generation to carry forward this tradition,” she said.

Heena Shahab, herself a former Lok Sabha candidate from Siwan, has returned to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) alongside Osama in recent months. Their comeback to RJD, and the announcement of Osama’s political ambitions, has unsettled local dynamics, particularly for sitting Raghunathpur MLA Harishankar Yadav. A two-term legislator, Yadav could face losing his ticket if RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav decides to back Shahabuddin’s son for the seat.

The development signals a significant reshuffle within the RJD’s local leadership in Siwan as the party strategizes ahead of the high-stakes October-November polls.
