Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday inspected the under-construction underground pedestrian path connecting Patna Junction to a new multi-level parking hub near GPO Golambar, urging officials to expedite the remaining work.
During the visit, CM Nitish examined facilities including the travelator and escalators, seeking updates from officials on passenger amenities and connectivity plans. He stressed that once operational, the 440-metre-long subway would significantly ease congestion around Patna Junction and improve the city’s public transport system.
The project, aimed at strengthening traffic management around the busy railway station area, forms part of a broader urban mobility initiative. The subway will directly link Patna Junction to the G+2 multi-modal hub being developed near Buddha Smriti Park, which features extensive multi-level parking.
Spread over 27,356 square metres, the new hub will offer dedicated parking for auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, cabs and private vehicles on two floors, while the ground floor will accommodate city buses. Officials say the facility is expected to streamline passenger movement and integrate various modes of transport under one roof.
CM Nitish directed authorities to complete construction promptly, emphasising that the project would not only ease commuter movement but also enhance the overall urban transport infrastructure in Patna.
