GAYA – In a relentless effort to curb the menace of opium cultivation and its illicit trade, Gaya Police, under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Ashish Bharti, continues its ‘Operation Clean’ targeting opium businessmen and mafias. The strategic operation, sanctioned by the SSP in Gaya, focuses on Naxal-affected police station areas, aiming to eradicate the sale, storage, and trade of illegal drugs.
From December 5 to December 14, a comprehensive search campaign was executed, resulting in the destruction of opium cultivation across 152.5 acres of land. The SSP emphasized the proactive stance of the police force in taking strict action against mafias engaged in opium farming.
The ‘Operation Clean’ initiative involved coordinated efforts, with Additional Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sherghati, Deputy Superintendent of Police Imamganj, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sherghati, Imamganj Circle Inspector, and various police station heads collaborating with paramilitary forces, including CRPF and SSB.

The targeted areas encompassed five villages in Barachatti, four in Lutua, and one each in Sohail and Banke Bazaar. Notable locations included Sankhwa forest area of Barachatti, Harkutta of Lutua, Ekrupaiwa of Lutua, Nagowar of Lutua, and Cholia Sambalpur of Barachatti, among others. Tractors and JCBs were employed to raid and destroy opium crops in the identified places.
SSP Bharti urged the public to actively participate in the fight against opium cultivation and drug trade. He appealed to citizens to report any instances of opium cultivation or drug-related activities in their vicinity to the local police or senior officers, ensuring confidentiality of the informant’s identity. The Operation Clean is a critical step in the ongoing efforts to eliminate the nexus between opium mafias and criminal activities in the region.
