Patna: As Bihar grapples with the growing impact of climate change, a day-long workshop in Patna aims to put heat and health resilience at the centre of the state’s climate strategy. Organised by the Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) in collaboration with UNICEF Bihar, the workshop titled “Heat and Health: Building Climate Resilience in Bihar” will take place on Monday, May 5, at the CIMP campus in Mithapur.
The initiative comes at a time when Bihar’s average temperature has risen by 0.8°C over the past 125 years — a trend that has triggered mounting health risks and exposed critical gaps in infrastructure and preparedness. A recent climate vulnerability assessment has identified several districts in the state as acutely susceptible to heat-related impacts.
Bringing together policymakers, scientists, public health experts and civil society leaders, the event aims to craft policy solutions that address the intersection of environmental stress and public health. The goal is to establish Bihar as a national leader in climate-health resilience through tailored, evidence-based strategies.
The programme will feature discussions on sustainable development goals, the National Action Plan for Climate Change, and Bihar’s own climate pathways, including the Bihar Heat Resilience Framework and district-level vulnerability mapping. The emphasis will be on enabling community-driven solutions and improving institutional readiness to tackle extreme weather conditions.
Among the key speakers and panellists are P.N. Rai (Member, Bihar State Disaster Management Authority), Dr C.N. Prabhu (Joint Director, Bihar Mausam Seva Kendra), Dr Sanjay Pandey (Yugantar), Dr Anil Thakur (TERI), Dr Ashish Kumar (IMD, Patna), and Dr Aditi Roy (Centre for Chronic Disease Control). Experts from organisations such as UNICEF, Piramal Foundation, ASAR, Pradan, Water Aid, GEAPP, and CIMP will also participate.
