Patna: The long-awaited Sherpur-Dighwara six-lane Ganga bridge, a major infrastructure project in Bihar, is slated for completion by 4 September 2027, according to updates shared by top state officials during an on-site review.
Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena recently inspected the under-construction bridge, which forms a critical link in the proposed Patna Ring Road and aims to reduce travel time between Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj and the state capital. The bridge, officially notified as National Highway-131G, spans 14.52 km including approach roads and is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 5,000 crore.
During the inspection, Meena stressed the importance of adhering to quality standards and deadlines. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), including CGM cum Regional Officer N.L. Yeotkar and Project Director Raju Kumar, were also present.
Project engineers briefed the delegation, revealing that 40% of the foundation work and 20% of concrete construction have been completed so far. Of the 101 well foundations planned, 73 are currently underway.
Once completed, the bridge will provide a direct link between Chhapra and Bihta Airport, reducing the travel distance by around 40 kilometres. It will also offer a critical alternative route for traffic moving between north Bihar and regions in the south and east, particularly through the Bihta-Sarmera corridor.
