Patna: The Bihar government has approved the construction of a 51-kilometre road along the embankment of the Ganga River between Koilwar and Buxar, aiming to provide much-needed relief from traffic congestion in the Ara-Buxar region and enhance regional connectivity.
The road, to be built on an existing embankment that currently serves as an unpaved footpath, will offer an alternative route between key cities including Koilwar, Buxar, Ara, Bihiya, Shahpur, and Dumraon. The project, worth Rs 182 crore, has been cleared by the State Council of Ministers and will be overseen by the Water Resources Department.
According to officials, the blacktopped embankment road will not only facilitate smoother transport but also enable quicker access to damaged embankment sections during floods or emergencies, thereby improving both logistics and disaster response capabilities. The new road is expected to reduce the pressure on the main highway, especially for commuters travelling between Patna and Buxar.
Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department, Santosh Malla, recently inspected the site with a team of engineers and approved the plan for rapid implementation. The upcoming road will be capable of supporting two-way vehicular traffic, with provisions for future expansion as needed.
