PATNA — Early Sunday morning brought an unsettling experience for residents across various districts in Bihar, as earthquake tremors jolted the region. At approximately 7:24 AM, a series of seismic disturbances led to people emerging from their homes in alarm.
Reports indicate that the tremors reverberated across several areas, including Patna, Bagaha, Siwan, Gopalganj, and Chapra. However, some residents reported that the intensity of the earthquakes was insufficient to be perceptible. Seismologists have assessed the earthquake’s magnitude at 5.3 on the Richter scale.
Additionally, Sheohar district felt the seismic jolt at the same time, prompting residents to exit their homes. The tremor endured for approximately five seconds. The epicenter of the earthquake has been traced back to Nepal. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage have been reported in the region.
The earthquake’s epicenter was identified in Nepal, with additional tremors felt in the neighboring Bihar districts of West Champaran, East Champaran, and Sitamarhi around 7:25 AM on Sunday. The Richter scale recorded a magnitude of 5.3, with Kathmandu, Nepal, pinpointed as the epicenter. The vibrations even reached the sanctuaries, causing the crowns of idols in puja pandals to shake, an alarming sight for devotees. The quake persisted for a brief but unsettling five seconds.
Meanwhile, in the vicinity of the India-Nepal border, residents of Sitamarhi experienced the ground’s unsettling tremors at precisely 7:24:20 AM. The Richter scale measured the earthquake’s magnitude at 5.3. The intensity of the tremors was such that water bottles and other items placed on tables vibrated. The shaking was also felt within Durga Mata’s puja pandals, with idols of gods and goddesses quivering, momentarily leading to divine interpretations.
Sitamarhi, a border town adjacent to Nepal, falls within an earthquake-prone zone. Residents were left momentarily bewildered, standing on roadsides, curious about the unusual natural phenomenon. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties or property damage as a result of these earthquakes.
