Patna: Bihar is beginning to break away from its longstanding image as an agrarian state, with a growing culture of entrepreneurship taking hold across both urban and rural areas. Under the state-run Startup Bihar initiative, 1,522 startups have been registered, with Rs 62.5 crore in financial support disbursed to date, according to the Department of Industries.
First launched in 2017 and overhauled in 2022, the Bihar Startup Policy has been reshaped to focus on inclusive growth, aiming to make the state a viable destination for young entrepreneurs and investors. The revised policy provides wider access to support and promises quicker implementation, with particular emphasis on empowering women, marginalised communities, and young people.
“From promoting innovation to reviewing proposals, we are extending every form of assistance to encourage self-employment and entrepreneurial ambition,” said Bihar’s industry minister, Nitish Mishra.
The policy includes end-to-end support—from early-stage guidance to help with scaling up operations. In addition to the main financial disbursement, Rs 13.3 lakh has been allocated to a selection of startups showing promising growth. Officials noted a marked increase in participation from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and women-led enterprises.
Authorities believe the initiative is not only fostering self-reliance but is also reshaping the state’s socio-economic fabric by nurturing a new generation of innovators and risk-takers.
