From Tree Planting to Eco-Tourism: Bihar’s Environmental Marvels Revealed at Saras Mela
PATNA – The stall of the Department of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change is showcasing information on Bihar’s prosperous scenic beauty under eco-tourism at the Saras Mela. Plants are available at departmental rates for creating a green cover, aimed at pollution control and environmental conservation, sourced from the government nursery.
The Saras Mela in Gandhi Maidan, Patna, is organised till December 29, 2023. The departmental stall provides detailed information about increasing green cover in the state through tree planting awareness and the sale of plants at departmental rates. Information about Bihar’s scenic spots and departmental initiatives under eco-tourism is also presented. Additionally, various methods to reduce climate change are being discussed.
Specifically, at the Saras Mela-2023, the department’s stall highlights Bihar’s eco-tourism sites, including Rajgir’s Horse Cart Glass Bridge, Venupur, Rajgir Zoo Safari, Nature Safari, Sasaram’s Shergharh Fort, Nalanda University, Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve, Kaimur’s Tutla Bhavani, Mundeshwari Devi Temple, Durgawati Dam, Barabar Caves, Karakat Fort Waterfall, Bhim Bandh, Ganges Dolphin Sanctuary, Raniganj Tree Garden, Gupta Dham, and the Capital Reservoir. Detailed information about these picturesque, eco-friendly tourist destinations that enrich Bihar’s natural beauty is provided.
Moreover, the department’s stall encourages visitors to the fair under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Mission to plant trees for enhancing the state’s green cover. Plants and various products from the government nursery are available at departmental rates, and street plays are organized to increase environmental awareness.
Recently, Bihar’s tree-planting activities related to mitigating the impacts of climate change were showcased at the India Pavilion during Cop28. Global-level appreciation has been received for the extensive tree planting and nursery development activities undertaken under the Jal Jeevan Hariyali Campaign.
