Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Reviews Museum Tunnel Project in Patna, Calls for Swift Completion to Boost Tourism

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday inspected the under-construction tunnel between Bihar Museum and Patna Museum, directing officials to expedite the project and ensure quality to improve tourist access between the two major cultural sites.

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted an on-site review of the tunnel being constructed to link Bihar Museum with the historic Patna Museum, urging officials to complete the project at the earliest and with attention to quality and accessibility. The tunnel, which will span 1.5 kilometres and measure 8 metres in width, is being built 15 metres underground and will facilitate pedestrian movement and electric vehicle transport between the two cultural landmarks.

During the inspection near Bihar Museum, CM Nitish briefed by Anjani Kumar Singh, Director General of Bihar Museum, about various aspects of the project including entry points, parking arrangements, and visitor amenities. The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of easing mobility for tourists, many of whom frequent both museums, and highlighted the potential of the project to further enhance Bihar’s cultural tourism.

CM Nitish noted that the Bihar Museum was built to international standards and attracts a steady stream of visitors, and that the expansion and upgradation of Patna Museum will complement its appeal. “With the completion of the tunnel, it will be easier for tourists to explore both museums, which will naturally boost footfall,” he said, directing authorities to ensure adequate parking and infrastructure to accommodate increased visitor numbers.

Following the tunnel inspection, the Chief Minister also visited Patna Museum to assess the ongoing expansion works. He reviewed developments in the newly built auditorium, collection storage area, and the upcoming Ganga Gallery. CM Nitish remarked positively on the completed sections and called for timely completion of the remaining upgrades, underscoring the need to preserve and showcase Bihar’s rich archaeological and historical legacy.

Key officials accompanying the Chief Minister included Principal Secretaries Deepak Kumar and Dr S Siddharth, Secretary Anupam Kumar, Urban Development Secretary Abhay Kumar Singh, Patna District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, and Senior Superintendent of Police Avkash Kumar, among others.
