Patna: The state government has activated a vigilant response following the identification of two COVID-19 cases in Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, conducted a comprehensive review meeting on Friday addressing the evolving situation.
During the session, CM Nitish issued directives to officials, emphasizing the urgent need to escalate the number of RTPCR tests conducted across Bihar. The government’s strategic focus is on bolstering testing capabilities to effectively manage the potential spread of the virus.
In adherence to the prescribed standard operating procedure (SOP) for COVID-19, the Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure the availability of medicines, equipment, beds, oxygen, and personnel in hospitals. Nitish also stressed the importance of creating awareness about COVID-19 through various communication channels, including social media and other publicity mediums.
While addressing the public, the Chief Minister urged citizens not to panic, emphasizing the significance of remaining vigilant and alert. He underscored the importance of using masks, particularly within hospital premises.
In response to the reported COVID-19 cases, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) swiftly established an 18-bed COVID ward and implemented arrangements for testing.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, Pratyaya Amrit, provided insights during the meeting, noting the detection of the JN.1 sub-variant in various countries, with two cases reported in Bihar. Amrit assured the public that this variant is not highly fatal, and both patients are currently in home isolation. Stringent precautions are being observed to curb the potential spread of the virus.
Key officials including Chief Secretary Aamir Subhani, Principal Secretary to CM Deepak Kumar, and Additional Chief Secretary of CM Secretariat Dr. S Siddharth were present during the meeting.
