Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has launched an investigation into an alleged case of data theft from the computer of Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh.
Following a complaint from Singh, a cyber cell team from the EOU sealed the affected computer and began a detailed examination. The Chairman had reported that important data appeared to be missing from his system, prompting immediate action by the authorities.
“Our cyber team is investigating the matter thoroughly,” said Nayyar Hasnain Khan, Additional Director General of Police, Economic Offences Unit. “The initial suspicion of a cyber attack was ruled out during the examination.”
Investigators now believe that the data may have been deliberately deleted or stolen by someone within the council. “It is possible that an employee with prior access to the system may be responsible for the data loss,” members of the investigation team said.
The cyber cell will conduct an in-depth forensic analysis of the computer to determine the exact nature and extent of the breach. “Only after this investigation is complete will appropriate legal action be taken,” Khan added.
