Patna: The Bihar government has given administrative approval for the construction of 649 new bridges across all districts under the Chief Minister Rural Bridge Scheme, aiming to significantly improve road connectivity and infrastructure in rural areas of the state.
With an estimated total outlay of Rs 2,97,712.077 lakh, the project is expected to enhance access to markets, healthcare, education, and other essential services, as well as support economic activity in previously under-connected regions.
East Champaran has emerged as the district receiving the highest number of sanctioned bridges under this scheme. A total of 54 bridges are planned in the district, stretching a combined 1,984.21 metres, with a proposed cost of Rs 20,574.26 lakh.
In the capital, Patna, 14 bridges have been approved, covering a total length of 579.13 metres and requiring an estimated expenditure of Rs 7,203.72 lakh.
Officials say the bridges will serve as vital links between urban and rural Bihar, facilitating the movement of people and goods. This is expected to particularly benefit farmers by providing better access to markets, while also making rural regions more accessible for industrial development.
