Patna: The Bihar government is accelerating efforts to improve road safety and create employment by expanding its driving school initiative across the state. Under the Motor Vehicle Driving Training Institute Incentive Scheme, 66 driving training schools are set to be established in 37 of Bihar’s 38 districts, with Aurangabad being the only exception.
So far, 34 schools are already operational in 29 districts, while construction of the remaining 32 is nearing completion, according to the state’s Transport Department.
The scheme aims to enhance the quality of driver training and reduce road accidents. To encourage participation from private institutions and individuals, the government is offering financial support of up to Rs. 20 lakh per school — covering 50% of the total cost. Each institute receives RS. 5 lakh for construction, another Rs. 5 lakh for developing a driving track, Rs. 2 lakh for equipment, Rs. 4 lakh for purchasing two light motor vehicles, Rs. 2 lakh for a four-wheeler, and an additional Rs. 2 lakh upon commencing operations.
“This scheme not only strengthens road safety through quality training but also opens up employment avenues for drivers across Bihar,” a transport department official said.
To qualify, applicants must secure at least two acres of land connected to a road, with a minimum lease of 10 years. Schools must be equipped with classrooms, a staff room, a workshop, separate sanitation facilities for men and women, clean drinking water, internet access, CCTV surveillance, electricity, and a 150-metre driving track. The appointment of qualified instructors is mandatory.
