Patna : The Bihar Health Department has strengthened its monitoring and complaint mechanism to curb the sale of fake and substandard medicines across the state. Residents can now report suspected violations of medicine quality standards directly to the department through a dedicated email address and telephone helpline.
The initiative follows directions from Health Minister Nishant to ensure the availability of quality medicines and take action, in accordance with applicable rules, against those found violating prescribed standards.
The department has issued drugcomplaintbihar@gmail.com for email complaints and 0612-4619634 for telephone complaints. The email facility is available at any time, while calls can be made from Monday to Friday between 10 am and 6 pm.
How To File A Complaint About Medicines
Residents can use the designated email address or telephone number to report medicines suspected of being counterfeit or failing to meet prescribed quality standards.
The department has specified that complaints can include information about medicines classified as Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) or those that do not comply with established quality requirements.
People reporting a suspected issue can provide details about the medicine and the nature of their concern to help officials assess the complaint. The department will examine the information received and initiate appropriate action in accordance with the rules.
The dedicated channels are intended to make it easier for members of the public to bring suspected medicine-quality violations directly to the attention of authorities.
Complainants’ Identities To Remain Confidential
The Health Department has said that the identities of people reporting medicine-quality concerns will be kept confidential.
The assurance is intended to encourage residents to report suspected fake or substandard medicines without fear or hesitation. The department will investigate complaints and take appropriate action if medicines are found to violate prescribed standards or other irregularities are established.
Health Department To Strengthen Testing And Inspections
Health Minister Nishant has emphasised the need to strengthen scientific testing, compliance with medicine-quality standards and regular inspections.
He has also directed officials to ensure effective action against those involved in the trade of counterfeit and substandard medicines.
The department is encouraging greater public awareness and participation in monitoring medicine quality. Timely complaints, combined with official inspections and scientific testing, are expected to help authorities identify suspected violations and investigate them.
The new email and telephone channels provide residents with a direct way to report medicine-quality concerns. Any enforcement action will depend on the findings of the relevant investigation and the applicable regulatory provisions.
