Patna: The routes of two key long-distance passenger trains — the Sarnath Express and the Gondia-Barauni Express — have been temporarily diverted due to ongoing engineering work, according to a press release from the Public Relations Department of the Northeast Railway in Varanasi.

The diversion comes as railway officials undertake essential maintenance on bridge number 403, situated between Silayari and Mandhar stations on the Bilaspur-Raipur section, which falls under the Raipur division of South East Central Railway. The work is aimed at ensuring passenger safety and improving operational efficiency, the department said.

As a result, the following changes will take effect on June 28:

  • Train no. 15160 Durg–Chhapra Sarnath Express will be diverted via Gondia, Nainpur, Jabalpur, and Katni, bypassing its usual route via Uslapur and Katni.
  • Train no. 15232 Gondia–Barauni Express will also be diverted through Nainpur, Jabalpur, and Katni, instead of the standard Uslapur–Katni route.

Additionally, Train no. 15159 Chhapra–Durg Sarnath Express will depart from Chhapra one hour later than its scheduled time on the same day.
