Patna: A major accident took place near Etawah in Uttar Pradesh when a sleeper bus going from Bihar to Delhi fell off the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. The accident happened in the Saifai area near milestone 103. The bus had around 80 passengers on board.
According to reports, the driver may have fallen asleep while driving. This caused the bus to lose control and fall off the elevated expressway. Two people died in the accident. They have been identified as Saeeda Khatun, a woman from Nepal, and Manoj Kumar, 55, from Darbhanga in Bihar. More than 50 other passengers were injured.
Soon after the accident, local police reached the spot and started rescue work. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Many had serious injuries, while others suffered cuts and bruises. People at the scene said the crash caused panic among the passengers.
Top officials, including the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police of Etawah, visited the spot to check the situation. An investigation has started to find out the exact cause of the accident. Police say they are also looking into whether the bus was following all safety rules.
