Patna: In a significant step toward strengthening public health infrastructure, Bihar goverment has inaugurated a state-of-the-art drug control laboratory in Patna, eliminating the state’s reliance on other cities for testing the quality of medicines and food products.
The Rs 30-crore facility, located at the GNM Training Institute, NMCM campus in Agamkuan, was inaugurated by Health Minister Mangal Pandey. The lab is equipped with 28 advanced machines designed to conduct micro-level testing of pharmaceutical and food samples, ensuring faster identification and removal of counterfeit or substandard products from the market.
Until now, Bihar had to send samples to cities such as Kolkata for analysis, often leading to months-long delays. With the launch of this modern laboratory, test results will be available locally and promptly, enabling quicker action and improved oversight of public health standards.
“This laboratory is a strong guarantee of health security for the 13 crore people of Bihar,” said Mangal Pandey. “We are not only providing better treatment facilities but also ensuring that only quality medicines reach the public. This is a major step toward making the health system more accountable and efficient.”
The facility also aligns with the national vision of a “Safe India, Healthy India,” enhancing Bihar’s technical capacity in health services and making it self-reliant in critical testing capabilities.
The inauguration was attended by key officials including Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, Additional Chief Secretary of Health Pratyaya Amrit, and BMSICL Managing Director Divesh Ramchandra Devre.
