Gaya: Bihar is set to witness a major industrial transformation with the development of the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya, poised to become the state’s largest industrial township. The project, part of the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), spans over 1,670 acres in Dobhi block of Gaya’s Sherghati sub-division and carries an estimated cost of Rs 1,339 crore, including Rs 462.14 crore allocated for land acquisition.
The IMC is expected to attract investment worth Rs 16,524 crore and generate more than 109,000 jobs, officials said. Designed with modern infrastructure and plug-and-play facilities, the project aims to foster an investment-friendly and market-driven ecosystem in the region.
Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena reviewed the project earlier this week, confirming that the land has already been acquired and directing authorities to finalise the selection of the implementation agency by March 2026. Meena said the IMC would be the state’s largest industrial township once completed.
The EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) tender for the project is expected to be floated in early July 2025, in consultation with the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC). Under the EPC model, a single contractor is responsible for the design, procurement, and construction of the project.
The IMC Gaya is among several industrial nodes being developed as part of the national industrial corridor programme, which involves collaboration between the central government and five participating states. Key focus sectors at the Gaya cluster include agro and food processing, readymade garments, auto components, steel-based products, aerospace and defence, building materials, furniture, handloom, and handicrafts.
The project received clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on 28 August 2024, followed by environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on March 18. A special purpose vehicle, Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Ltd (BIMCGL), was established on January 6 to oversee the project’s implementation.
To support the development, the Bihar government notified the site as an industrial area in March 2025 and granted a waiver on stamp duty. It also approved the construction of a greenfield 7km alignment, connecting the IMC site to the Golden Quadrilateral (NH-19, GT Road) at a cost of Rs 142 crore.
Officials said the region’s skilled workforce, proximity to professional and technical institutions including IIMs, engineering and medical colleges, and a strong tourism base – Gaya is a UNESCO World Heritage site – make it an attractive destination for industrial investment.
