Muzaffarpur: In the first incident, two youths were critically injured while performing stunts on a motorcycle near Sharquddinpur New Sabzi Mandi along the East-West Corridor between Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga. Their motorcycle collided with a stationary pickup truck. Mohammad Riyaz, 19, and Mohammad Sarfaraz alias Chhotu, 20 — both residents of Etwarpur village and tailors working in Hyderabad — were visiting home for the Bakrid festival when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses, including retired teacher Mohammad Rashid Ansari and local doctor Alauddin Ansari, said the crash happened while the pair were turning back near the gas agency cut, about two kilometres from their home. Riyaz sustained serious neck injuries and was referred to a Delhi hospital in critical condition. Sarfaraz is reportedly stable and is undergoing treatment at a local nursing home.
In a separate fatal collision on the Saraiya-Turki road near Bahilwara Rupnath village, Mohammad Alam, 30, of Azizpur, died after a head-on collision between two motorcycles. The crash occurred near a Gramin Bank. Alam was declared dead at the CHC health centre, and his body was sent to SKMCH for postmortem. Three others were injured in the incident, including Saurabh Kumar, 20, from Bahilwara, who is receiving treatment at a private hospital. Both motorcycles involved have been seized, according to Station In-Charge Subhash Mukhiya.
Elsewhere, on State Highway 74 near Ghanaiya Petrol Pump in Sahebganj, a collision between two trucks left one driver injured. Pappu Yadav, 35, from Gayaji, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel while transporting a swing from Bettiah to Vaishali. Villagers assisted in pulling him from the wreckage, and he was later referred to SKMCH for further treatment.
In a separate and grim discovery, the body of a middle-aged man was found along the Muzaffarpur-Samastipur railway line near Railway Gumti number 76. The body, in a decomposed state and suspected to have fallen from a train, was recovered by Sakra police and sent for postmortem. Police are working with nearby stations to identify the deceased.
Another disturbing case emerged in Turki, where the body of Mahendra Manjhi, 50, was found dumped by the roadside in Dubiyahi village. Manjhi had reportedly gone to collect his wages from a local employer. His body bore signs of burns on the face and torso. Police have begun an investigation following a complaint from family members, and local panchayat head Sumangal Sahni has called for action against those responsible.
