Bhagalpur: A shocking case of alleged prolonged sexual assault has emerged in Bihar, where a 15-year-old girl has accused her father, a retired Navy serviceman, of raping her for five years. The teenager claims she was repeatedly beaten naked if she resisted, and alleges that police initially dismissed her complaint, questioning her honesty.
The disturbing revelations came to light after the girl, seeking refuge from her father, fled to her maternal grandparents’ home on June 10. From there, she, along with her grandparents, lodged a formal complaint against her father with the police. The First Information Report (FIR) was ultimately registered on the initiative of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), following an intervention from higher authorities.
In her detailed complaint, the victim stated that her father, now working as a guard, began sexually harassing her when she was in the fifth grade. “I told my father – this is a sin,” she recounted in her application.
The minor further alleged brutal retaliations for her defiance: “When I refused to have sex, my father broke my hand. He often rapes me. If I protest, he beats my mother and me naked in a closed room like a monster.”
The horrific ordeal reportedly continued even after she sought safety at her grandparents’ house. The girl claims her father arrived the very next day, June 11, and in an inebriated state, attempted to assault her again.
Crucially, the victim alleges that her initial attempt to report the matter at the local women’s police station was met with disbelief and victim-blaming. “When I informed the police, the police said – ‘You are lying. Does this happen with a father and daughter? If this had happened with their daughter, they would have known something. The policeman told me – You can tear the clothes yourself too.'”
She lamented the lack of understanding: “The one who has brutality inside him does not understand the relationship between a father and a daughter. Can’t wrong be done with the wife, she is also a girl, isn’t it? I have reached the police station with the support of my maternal grandparents. This has been happening to me for 5 years, but how could I speak up. Today when I have come to speak, everyone is backing off.”
The victim also reported being told at the women’s police station, “If your report comes out wrong, then where will you go,” and was made to wait for four hours before her complaint was officially accepted.
The situation escalated when the victim contacted the Director General (DG) headquarters, who then instructed the Inspector General (IG), who in turn ordered the SSP to take action. Following these interventions, the case was finally registered.
The victim’s father has since been taken into police custody and is currently undergoing interrogation. A police team has been dispatched to investigate the incident site, and the minor victim has been sent for a medical examination.
City SP Shubhank Mishra confirmed the registration of the case at the women’s police station following instructions from senior officials. He acknowledged the delay in filing the FIR, stating, “I will go to the police station and investigate why there was a delay of 4 hours in filing the FIR. Women officers will also investigate the entire matter.” He also mentioned that the victim had initially attempted to register a case at the Parbatta police station in Khagaria when her father allegedly sexually assaulted her at her maternal grandmother’s house there, but her complaint was not taken.
