Patna: A police constable was assaulted on Monday evening in the Exhibition Road area of Patna while responding to a domestic dispute between a father and his son. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Maidan police station.
According to officials, the Dial 112 emergency response team was called to H. Complex on Exhibition Road after a man, identified as Shivten Raja, 25, allegedly began physically assaulting members of his family. His father, Mohammad Shahzad Khan, contacted police for assistance.
When officers arrived at the scene, Shivten reportedly turned violent. Constable Sanjay Kumar Mandal was dragged and thrown to the ground before being assaulted. “He tore my uniform and beat me so badly that my glasses broke. I had to flee to save my life,” Mandal said.
A call for backup was immediately issued, prompting reinforcement from multiple police stations including Gandhi Maidan, Kotwali, and Kadamkuan. After a coordinated search, Shivten was apprehended with the support of local residents.
The accused, who was found with visible injuries on his hand and neck, is said to be suffering from mental health issues. His father told police that Shivten had not been sleeping properly for the past five days and was under ongoing treatment. “He was planning to visit the Bihar Sharif Mazar today, but got agitated when the car driver didn’t arrive on time, which triggered the violence,” Khan explained.
