Patna: A bomb threat sent via email to authorities at Patna’s Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport triggered panic and heightened security measures on Monday night. The anonymous email warned that a bomb had been planted at the airport and could explode at any time.
The threat, received around midnight, prompted an immediate response from airport officials. Security agencies, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Bihar Police, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), swiftly launched a coordinated search operation across the premises.
Passengers and staff were temporarily restricted from certain areas as teams combed through the airport using sniffer dogs and bomb-detection equipment. Officials confirmed that the entire terminal, including luggage areas, check-in counters, and restrooms, were thoroughly inspected.
As of now, no explosive device has been found. Authorities are treating the threat as a serious security concern and have launched a cyber investigation to trace the origin of the email. Senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau and Anti-Terrorism Squad are also assisting in the probe.
Airport operations continued under strict vigilance, with additional security personnel deployed throughout the terminal. Flyers experienced brief delays but were largely cooperative with the authorities.
This incident comes just days after Patna Airport began operations from its new terminal building, and it has raised fresh concerns about security protocols at key infrastructure sites in the region.
