Patna: Bihar’s Road Construction Minister and BJP MLA Nitin Nabin on Thursday said that those who once looted ballot papers are today pleading for people’s votes, in a sharp attack on the opposition.
Addressing a meeting at his residence with presidents, in-charges, and booth agents of different mandals under Bankipur Assembly, Nitin discussed the ‘Voter List Special Intensive Revision Campaign 2025’. He said the primary aim of the drive is to include all eligible citizens in the voter list, remove ineligible names, and ensure transparency so that every eligible voter can exercise their franchise properly.
“I urge all the people of the state, including Bankipur Assembly, to actively cooperate in this great campaign to strengthen democracy and also make others aware,” Nitin said.
Responding to opposition leaders questioning the Election Commission’s processes, Nitin said, “It is ironic that those who used to loot ballot papers are now pleading for democracy and people’s votes. The opposition only believes in destroying democracy. The biggest black spot on this country was during the Congress era when they killed democracy by imposing Emergency.”
He further alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s criticism of the Election Commission indicates their lack of trust in the people of Bihar. “Rahul and his disciple Tejashwi questioning the process of the Election Commission shows they do not trust the people of Bihar,” he said.
Calling the opposition’s allegation that names of the poor are being deleted from voter lists “absurd”, Nitin said the Election Commission is continuously verifying voters and ensuring transparency. “If something is deleted, it will be Congress’ dream of forming a government in Bihar and Tejashwi’s dream of becoming the Chief Minister,” he said.
He added that as long as the NDA government remains in power, “no intruders can ever enter Bihar or usurp the rights of the poor”. Nitin said the BJP is running campaigns for voter verification to ensure rights and development reach every section of society.
Hundreds of workers from Golghar Mandal, Gautam Buddha Mandal, Junction Mandal, Kadamkuan Mandal, and University Mandal were present at the meeting.
