Bihar Airman Drowns While Saving Friend in Nainital Lake

Sahil from Muzaffarpur lost his life while trying to rescue his drowning friend during a trip to Nainital

Muzaffarpur: A young airman from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district died while saving his friend from drowning in Nainital. The airman, Sahil, was just 24 years old and belonged to Ganiyari village under Bariyarpur police station area. He had gone to Nainital on Thursday with his friends for a holiday.

Police said that four Air Force soldiers from the Pathankot unit had come to visit Nainital along with their four female friends. When they reached Musatal lake in Bhimtal, one of the airmen, Prince Raj Yadav from Chhattisgarh, went swimming but started drowning because of the lake’s depth. Sahil jumped in to save him, but he too drowned in the strong water currents.

Their bodies were later taken out by the police. The two other soldiers with them were Saurabh Nayal from Baroda and Vijendra Singh from Lucknow, while the girls were from Gujarat. Sahil was the elder of two brothers and was not married yet, though there were discussions of his marriage in the family.

Sahil’s brother Tuntun Rai said that Sahil had first visited Haridwar with friends before going to Nainital. Whenever he came home on leave, he guided the village youth and motivated them. His parents, Munna Rai and Kiran Devi, are heartbroken after hearing the news. Villagers are preparing for Sahil’s last rites with full respect when his body reaches home by Friday evening.
